Analog Devices’ µModule® (micromodule) regulators and DC-to-DC power products are complete system-in-package (SiP) power management solutions with integrated DC-to-DC controllers, power transistors, input and output capacitors, compensation components, and inductors within a compact, surface-mount BGA or LGA package. µModule power products support functions such as step-down (buck), step-down and step-up (buck-boost), battery charger, isolated converter, and LED driver. As a highly integrated solution with PCB Gerber files available for every device, µModule power products address time and space constraints while delivering a high efficiency, reliable, and, with select products, a low EMI solution compliant with EN 55022 Class B standards.

Analog Devices offers a broad portfolio of high performance battery management IC devices including battery chargers, companion battery charge controllers, and battery backup managers. Battery chargers are for both wireless and wired applications and may be used for any rechargeable battery chemistry. Companion battery charger controllers are used in conjunction with virtually any internally compensated switching regulator to form a complete battery charging solution. Battery backup managers enable battery charging and backup power from the battery to the system output in the event of a system power removal or outage. Analog Devices’ family of charge pumps offers the widest selection of simple and compact inductorless dc-to-dc converter designs. These converters can be used to step-up, step-down, or invert an input voltage. By eliminating the inductor, these switched capacitor converters provide a small solution footprint and a simpler design. Furthermore, by incorporating spread spectrum technology on-chip, both input and output noise are significantly reduced.

Analog Devices’ circuit monitors deliver precise, board-level measurements along with comprehensive monitoring of current, voltage, power, charge, and time. Featuring integrated 12-bit analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) and internal accumulators, they support rails up to 100 V and currents up to ±30 A, with high dynamic range and <±0.8% accuracy. Additional capabilities include internal or external time base options, parametric measurements, and integrated sense resistor monitoring—enabling complete and efficient system-level circuit analysis.

Analog Devices’ fan and thermoelectric cooler (TEC) controllers provide comprehensive cooling solutions for regulating fan speed and thermoelectric cooling. Fan speed controllers utilize a 2-wire SMBus/I²C interface to adjust fan speeds according to the system's temperature profile, resulting in reduced power consumption, extended battery life, and minimized noise compared to simple on-off fan control systems. TEC controllers are designed for cooler-based photonics, offering compact size, high efficiency, and robust performance. They feature both linear and pulse width modulation power stages, with options for digital or analog PID control. These TEC controllers support various MSA-based optical modules, including SFP, SFP+, QSFP+, CFP/CFP-2/CFP-4, and QSFP28.

Analog Devices has a very broad line of LED driver ICs for automotive, display backlighting, handheld, and general high-power lighting applications. They are configured as either inductorless (charge pump) or switching regulator-based LED drivers that support driving white LEDs in series, parallel or combination. Topologies include boost regulator, buck regulator, buck/boost, SEPIC topology LED drivers, and more. Regardless of topology, these ICs offer the highest efficiency, lowest noise, and the smallest footprints. Analog Devices’ power over Ethernet (PoE) products encompass a wide variety of power sourcing equipment (PSE) and powered device (PD) controllers that support multiple power levels: IEEE PoE (13W, 802.3af), IEEE PoE+ (25.5W, 802.3at), IEEE PoE++ (71.3W, 802.3bt), and ADI LTPoE++ (90W) standard. Our PSE and PD controllers provide complete PoE solutions and use external components such as power MOSFETs and sense resistors to lower resistance in the power path—minimizing heat dissipation and maximizing power efficiency. In addition, our robust cable discharge protection scheme, a high abs max rating on all analog pins, wide operating temperature, and overtemperature protection all make for extremely rugged PoE solutions that meet IEC61000 cable discharge requirements that far exceed ESD and cable ESD testing levels.

A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is a highly integrated device with many functional circuit blocks onboard. The high level of integration provides many benefits, including reduced printed circuit board (PCB) space, simpler design, faster time to market, and a reduced bill of material (BoM) cost. Analog Devices’ PMICs with battery chargers or USB power managers address battery charging and provide multiple system rails in portable products, all in a compact form factor. PowerPath control allows for seamless transitions and manages power flow between different input sources such as a wall adapter, USB port, and lithium battery while preferentially providing power to the system load.

Analog Devices’ power system management (PSM) ICs and sequencers allow you to keep existing analog power systems while adding new capabilities: output trimming (±0.25% precision), margining, sequencing, nonvolatile fault recording, and digital monitoring data (on voltage, current, power, energy, temperature, and faults). Our portfolio spans a wide range of channel counts (2 to 16 supplies) and easily manages even larger POL power systems found in network routers and switches, servers, enterprise data storage systems, and automated test equipment.
