Linear Technology FracNWizard(TM) Installation Instructions

Description
-----------

The Linear Technology FracNWizard(TM) is used to communicate with the
LTC6947 and LTC6948 synthesizers.  It uses the DC590 to translate
between USB and SPI-compatible serial communications formats.

It also includes advanced PLL design and simulation capabilities.  You
may use it to:

	- Recommend part parameters based on your frequency plan
	- Design noise-optimized loop filters
	- Simulate loop frequency response and stability
	- Simulate VCO and Reference source noise
	- Simulate output noise characterisics and statistics

Refer to the included LICENSE.rtf for important usage information.


System Requirements
-------------------

- Windows Operating System: Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista,
  Windows 7
- Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 or later
- Windows Installer 3.1 or later
- Linear Technology's DC590 Demo Board


Detailed Installation Instructions.  Please Read!!!

1) DC590

You must possess a DC590 board, available from www.linear.com, to com-
municate with the PLL Demo Board.  But, FracNWizard WILL operate with
"Communication Disabled" without a DC590.



2) Microsoft .NET

You must have Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 or later installed on your computer.
FracNWizard will not run without it.  Note that Microsoft Windows Vista
and Windows 7 have at least version 3.5 preinstalled. 

To manually determine your version of .NET using Windows XP, click

	Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs

	or

	Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs

The FracNWizard setup program will automatically install Microsoft
.NET from Microsoft's website if a compatible .NET version is NOT FOUND.



3) Run FracNWizard Setup File

Run "FracNWizardSetup" or to verify/install Microsoft .NET and the
FracNWizard.  The setup program will create an "Linear Technology" sub-
menu in your Program Files menu.  Click

   Linear Technology->FracNWizard->FracNWizard

to run the software.

Refer to the Help menu for software operation.  Refer to the appropriate
Demo Circuit Quick Start Guide for hardware connection instructions.



INSTALLATION TROUBLESHOOTING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Symptom:  Unable to install.  A popup states “Another version of this
          product is already installed….”

Solution: You have a previous version of the application already in-
          stalled which the installer could not remove.  Uninstall by
          selecting “Uninstall FracNWizard” in the Linear Technology
          program group.  Or, uninstall by using Add/Remove Programs
          in the Windows Control Panel.


Symptom:  Installation finishes but the FracNWizard application exits with
          an error.

Solution: Microsoft .NET 3.5 or later is not installed.  This can be
          caused by a .NET installation error, or by executing FracNWizard
          setup without Administrator privileges.  Ensure .NET 3.5 or
          later is installed and/or run FracNWizardSetup with Administrator
          privileges.


Symptom:  A popup states "DC590 drivers not found. Attach DC590 to complete
          driver installation. Re-Install FracNWizard if still not suc-
          cessful."

Solution: The USB driver installation either did not complete, or is
          corrupted.  A DC590 or Linduino must be connected to a USB port
          after the setup completes to finish USB driver installation.  The
          application may still be used even if the drivers are not
          installed, but no demo board communication will be possible.
